Aging and Brain Health

Good News! The prevalence of dementia in older Americans has fallen. Of those 65 and older, about 20 to 25 percent have mild cognitive impairment while only about 10 percent have dementia symptoms.

Recent studies support those over age 65 have an average of more than 12 years of good cognitive health, and this number has been in an increasing trend over the past decade. More good news is that even when seniors notice developing cognitive problems, many still maintain an overall sense of well-being.

What accounts for trend?  The studies still point toward more education as well as staying active, both mentally and physically. For more information about these studies, see - Kaiser Health News.
